Swanson resigned his position. Wife started having issues. Swanson in denial that it was the implants.Wife gets removed and offered 1 million from dow Wife says no and sues while husband stays with company. if husband leaves now he wont get the full retirement pension. Needs to pay medical bills. Breast implants were 1% of revenue but company went bankrupt defending product to protect name for other products. No real evidence to this day EX/ chi chi effect once one thing is regarded as tainted it raised questions of other things. After this lawsuit of did things get so bad ? John knapp wrote “ corporate moral blindness” = unethical corp behavior emerges when good people blind themselves to moral activity that hurts public good. * living n denial choosing not to act. 4 categories of corp self deception= 1. Tribalism- belief company can do no wrong. 2.legalism- inability to imagine moral obligation.( as long as I follow the law you cant ask more… law sets moral minimum, law asks we don’t do our worst. 3. Moral relativism- viewing business as a game and business is subject to its own set of rules 4.scientism- self delusional behavior, attempt to make decision making a science. Decision cant be questioned if its science business today worry about law and not so much on ethics. Wishful blindness- choosing not to know.
