Patient safety and quality are important predictors of patient outcomes (Melnyk , Gallagher‐Ford, & Fineout‐Overholt, 2014) . When nurse staffing is adequate, adverse events decrease and overall outcomes improve (Americal Nurses Association, 2012). In a study of data from two large hospitals, investigators determined that an 8:1 ratio created the least expense, but was also associated with the highest mortality rates. The study also compared staffing ratios ranging from 8:1 to 4:1 and noted the cost-effectiveness of increased nurse staffing (Rothberg, Abraham, Lindenauer & Rose, 2005). Doctors hospital has numerous strengths. The organization recently became the areas second trauma hospital. It furnishes high school, college, and university students with its reputable clinical experiences. Doctors also conducts community employee recruitments at local job fairs and new graduate residency program. This program provides job placement and further prepares new nurses for clinical functions in the facility. The residency program provides a curriculum and certifications pertinent to the nurse’s hired specialty. Doctor s Hospital is recognized by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading

Doctors Hospital received the HealthGrades Surgery Excellence Award (2009- 2011). Doctors Hospital has also received the Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Doctors Hospital is a 2009 Silver award-winning Get With the Guidelines Stroke hospital and was recognized nationally in Stroke and U.S. News & World Report as a recipient of this prestigious honor. This organization also houses several weaknesses such as high clinical staff turnover rates. Insufficient staffing causes high levels of stress for nurses and other clinical staff, decreases morale, and forces many of them to leave the profession. About 1 in 3 nurses leaves the profession within 2 years of obtaining their nursing license. Many nurses have experienced burn-out due to the high patient to nurse ratios caused by inadequate staffing levels and unsafe nurse to patient ratio‘s . It has been found that organizations with dissatisfied nurses have low patient satisfaction scores (Kerfoot, 2012). Following an interview with Doctors nurses and other clinical staff, they attributed the elevated staff turnover rates to inadequate staffing. Clinical nurses who complain of burnout Report the main cause of their burn out is the frequency And stress of dangerous patient to nurse ratio’s. The nursing ratios and this organization varies by department, with the general medical departments having ratios of 8:1, progressive care units 6:1, and intensive care units 3:1. Nurses spend 40-50% of their shifts charting, with minimal time remaining for quality, direct patient care (Kerfoot, K., 2017). Direct patient care time is limited to medication passes, shift assessment, lab draws, and short rounding visits.
