THE POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY 4 Police Academies should start stress management programs to train their officers how best to react when they panic. The policing agency needs to establish evidence-based human performance training in all the levels of the profession to teach the officers how to best respond to situations when they are tired or stressed. Police departments should come up with in-house training to deal with the mental health of their officers (Hickman & Reaves, 2012). The police, during training, are trained on how to handle firearms and when to use them. At one time an officer may need to use a gun to protect himself or the public, and this action may have a psychological impact on them. Having shot at someone and ending their life could lead to depression and trauma that if not handled appropriately could cause more danger. The police, therefore, need to be trained on stress management to avoid endangering the lives of the public and fellow officers or even suicide. How Proper Recruitment and Selection Assist with Implementation of Community Policing Community policing is a rule that needs the police to inherit a pre-emptive approach to deal with concerns on public safety. Community policing identifies that cops cannot decipher every public safety distress alone, so there is a need to build collaborative partners.
