That’s exactly what I thought before I got to the mead hall. So I snooped around Herot for a little bit, not being noticed. I may have stepped on a couple twigs and made some noise, but those foolish humans couldn’t notice me. They couldn’t hear the twigs over the sound of their jittering teeth at the mere thought of me. soldiers resting together” (46). So, obviously, I “intended to tear the life from those bodies”(46). I mean come on – I’m Grendel. So I go to the first warrior, and he’s fast asleep, and I snatch him up real quick, tear him up, drink his blood, devour his insides and what not. Easy enough. It took a whole eight and a half seconds for me to do that. Now this is where it gets real interesting. I turn to the next guy, close to the guy I just messed up. I'm under the impression that he’s fast asleep, because I was so quiet that dogs couldn’t even hear what I was up to. So I go up to him, thinking he’s asleep and what do you know? “It’s a trick! His eyes are open, were open all the time, cold-bloodedly watching to see how I work” (Gardner 151). So I'm thinking to myself that this guy’s an idiot and
