They completed a cross-sectional descriptive study that has 126 participants and completed questionnaire that measured their physical activity, nutrition, and medical history. Their blood pressures were monitored during the study and showed that 36.5% of the participants had HTN and 39.7% had pre-hypertension. The patients who had hypertension also had a larger body mass index compared to the normotensive patients. 68% of these patients did not know they had hypertension or even prehypertension. This supports the question being asked because it proves the extremely high percentage of Middle Eastern Americans who suffer from hypertension here in the US and do not have the knowledge or the right resources to care for it. Tailakh, Ayman, et al. “Prevalence, Awareness, Treatment, and Control of Hypertension among Arab Americans.” The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing , U.S. National Library of Medicine, 2013, . Part 2: where you wright about how consistent the findins are. What are the common findings? What are limitations the studies show? Were there any overall issues with the studies. As discussed throughout this literature review the importance of meeting with a dietitian/ diet educator is a large contributing factor of many Americans to adhere to any diet. In all five articles reviewed the literature proves that seeing a dietitian for counseling improves adherence to a diet. The more a patient sees the dietitian the longer the adherence is as supported in the above articles. There were not any limitations noted during the literature review but reccomendations were made in one of the articles above. The recommendation was to make sure all dietitians made a specific plan for each patient and not to assume that each diet will work for every individual. It is important to customize the plan based off the persons lifestyle, culture, and economical status.
