Minerals from the environment and productsmanufactured from mineral materials are all around us and we use and counter them every day.Strength:By using these mineral resources properly our economy can be brought out to a very higherposition. Bangladesh has huge amount of Natural Gas. That is why natural gas can be consideredas the main mineral resource of our country. Natural gas is the main element to produce heat
24electricity. Also, in our country natural gas is used as fuel for cooking.Silica Sand and White Clay are being used as raw materials. For this reason, production offertilizer and Cement is developing day by day in our country. Future of mineral resources islooking bright. We have opportunity to research and also we have bright prospect. Proper uses ofmineral resources can lead our country to a higher position.
25Weakness:As a developing country, our resources might be our turn even point since we do not havesufficient amount of mineral and power resources. We have to consider it as our bad opportunity. But we also should be careful about the resources that we have right now. Getting mineralresources or any other natural resources is not in our hand. So we cannot measure if it is ourweaknessornot.Itshouldalwaysbecountedasablessing.
26OpportunitiesFirst of all, the meaning of opportunities is chances. There can be many opportunities of mineralresources. These opportunities can also be from the mineral resources like using these resourcesas a fuel in our country. Also, there are geographical opportunities like extracting these resourcesfrom thereservoirsand use them or protect them. There are vast opportunities of mineralresources in Bangladesh. And they are explained bellow.Starting with the chances of geographical location. The opportunities of mineral resources inBangladesh are heavy. Bangladesh provides big opportunity for mineral resources throughout thecountry. This is a big opening of fuel and other things for the country.Geologically, Bangladesh occupies a greater part of thebengal basinand the country is coveredby Tertiary folded sedimentary rocks (12%) in the north, north eastern and eastern parts; upliftedPleistocene residuum (8%) in the north western, mid northern and eastern parts; and Holocenedeposits (80%) consisting of unconsolidatedsand, siltandclay.
