94 HUMAN SEXUALlTY Vi rtual Sex • Online connectivity has changed how we think about our basic sense of time, space, and sexual individuality. • Sexual individuality is how you experience your own sexual uniqueness in needs, feelings, desires, communications, and behaviors, especially online. • Norms for sexual behavior online are still evolving, so it is important to set clear personal boundaries for your online sexuality. • The Internet allows people to locate others who share their interests and perhaps even find a mate. • Online relationship formation is growing in importance in our culture, but people are still trying to figure out how it works successfully. • Online games and avatars are part of the virtual sexual landscape. Adu lt Sexual Content • The label "adult sexual content (ASC)" has long been applied to sexually explicit materials, and is now applied to online pornography. • Pornography has reshaped how some people imagine their bodies and sexual expression. • The Internet allows individuals to explore and express their own sexuality, privately and anonymously. • The pornification of our culture and sexuality in films and online should not be taken to mean that what is shown is normal. • Adult sexual entertainment is a live, online form of paid sexual interaction.
