Although there are occasions where I feel a sense of nostalgia and pride in my teams for doing the right thing. It takes me back to a time when I was younger, more competitive and could put the loss of a game behind me as quick as it took me to get home. Sportsmanship bring teammates, fans, and friends closer. “Emlin Tunnell, the greatest defensive back of his period, was quoted as saying “You had to walk proud when you were with him because he walked that way” (Austin, 2008). He said this in regards to his coach Vince Lombardi, whom the Super Bowl trophy is named after. He said this because Vince exemplified sportsmanship and was a living role model for all his players to emulate. It would be hard to find a popular player or coach today that would leave such a legacy and indelible mark on players and fans alike. What is sportsmanship? Some would say it is “the mandatory shaking of hands at the end of a game” (Goldstein, 2006). However, sportsmanship is much more than this. It is the combination of behavior, morality, and ethics that determine the sportsmanship. To combat poor sportsmanship you must have integrity in yourself and the game. It is never any fun to play with a cheater. Some people will go to great lengths to sacrifice the game for the sake of winning by any means necessary. To manage the integrity of the players and the game and combat poor sportsmanship I would encourage teamwork to help minimize selfish acts thus enabling a unified
