airwaves could be a result of countrys “boy club” which has its deeply seeded roots in Nashville (Jancelewicz, 2017). Male country music stars are already viewed in a more welcoming sense compared to female artists and when it comes down to airtime, nine times out of ten it will be a male musicians song playing (Willman, 2018). This unequal representation ties in with the topic of silencing, similar to what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they spoke negatively about the president and the war in Iraq. Silencing is seen because women are not being given the platform or airtime to allow them to share their stories. (Willman, 2018). When the genre of country music is broken down there becomes a noticeably drastic difference in the way men and women are represented in the media. Most of these differences derive from the inaccurate stereotypes placed on each gender. Stereotypes in country music are often found through lyri cs, here popular country artist Luke Bryan sings: “You got that suntan, skirt and boots, Waiting on you to look my way and scoot your little hot self over here, Girl hand me another beer, yeah!” (Pruitt, 2006). Objectification is deeply at play here, and the lyrics also conform to the gender roles described by Pruitt in the first source discussed. This supports the common theme that women are subservient and submissive in relation to men.
