Artist Statement: My works deal with personal realizations about the most primitive human behavior and needs. I appropriate symbolic imagery from multiple sources to illustrate the inconsistencies of seemingly irreconcilable feelings. I attempt to use my art as solutions to human mishaps, dubbing them as epiphanies. I strive to address the inconveniences of the human heart from the mildest instances as by the annoyance created by one’s own mistakes, the longing to satisfy hunger yet also eating for pleasure, and communal empathy which allows us to care for people we consider estranged from us. In this way, I reduce humans to animals: social, but still beholden to our most carnal desires even through multiple layers of deception by appearance and ideology.

This simplification allows me to dissect varying levels of human interaction, and in a reverse effect, answer these complicated emotions with visually challenging layers of my own inclination. Proposal: If given the opportunity to work with ARCUS, my concept for the project would focus primarily on the emphasis of “process” that ARCUS prioritizes.
