Mutation of C-T codon caused the drug to bind loosely to the enzyme, allowing transcription to occur efficiently, causing the bacteria with this mutation to survive o In the bacteria population, they did not evolve, rather natural selection occurred Individual cells did not change through time, they just survived or died This proved that allele frequencies change in populations not individuals thus only populations evolve Humans have an influence on the directrional selection of a species o Ie. Canadian fishers overhunted large cod and as a result, cod sizes became smaller Lamarck vs. Darwin o Lamarck proposed that individuals change as a result of a challenge faced, these changed traits are then passed to offspring

o Darwin stated that individuals do not change when selected ,rather produce more offspring until their trait becomes more frequent Acclimation – changes in individuals’ phenotypes due to changes in environmental conditions o Not passed off to offspring because no alleles have changed in composition o Thus, acclimation Is not the same as adaptation, showing that it does not contribute to evolution Adaptations do not occur because an organisms wants it to occur or needs it to occur Humans are no higher up than a tapeworm parasite because each is well adapated to their environment Genetic correlation – single allele affects multiple traits ie. Slection of increased break depth caused a correlated increase in another trait (break width)

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
