This medication should not be discontinued suddenly, if a dose is missed it should be taken right away, unless it is time for the next dose then the dose should be skipped. An initial dose of 20mg will be ordered, this dose is recommended based on his laboratory results (Micromedex, 2019). Common side effects include; diarrhea, arthralgia, nasopharyngitis and in more serious cases dermatomyositis, increased liver enzymes/liver failure, and rhabdomyolysis. Mr. Tomkins must know the signs of rhabdomyolysis and known to report them right away. Lipitor can be taken any time of day, with or without food. As with Mr. Tomkins’ other drugs, he must remember to inform all his providers that he is taking them. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
