Botton states that one of the reasons why it is harder for one to feel calm now than ever before is due to the fact that we are all basically equal. This reason is paradoxical because, in reality, we cannot all be equal. Also, the expectations of human beings about what they can achieve have become so high. People are told that they can be anything that they ever wanted to be in this life. However, this is not possible, and it is only made to feel that way by media outlets and magazines (Alain de Botton, 2009). As a result, a lot of people feel anxious about their careers and status. The most interesting thing about success in our society today is that everybody thinks they know what it means. Whenever one thinks of success, the kind of things that come to their mind include people like Bill Gates who have made a lot of money or someone like Dwayne Johnson who is renowned in the film industry. Importantly, it is not possible for one to be successful at everything – you cannot have it all (Chopra, 2011). Dwayne Johnson might be happy because of the fame and possessions he has got, but he might not actually be happy compared to a regular person who gets to spend quality time with his/her family. For
