NATO – It is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty , which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party SEATO – Primarily created to block further communist gains in Southeast Asia, SEATO is generally considered a failure because internal conflict and dispute hindered general use of the SEATO military; however, SEATO-funded cultural and educational programs left long-standing effects in Southeast Asia. SEATO was dissolved on 30 June 1977 after many members lost interest and withdrew. Warsaw Pact – It was a collective defense treaty among eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War . Cuban Missile Crisis – It was a 13-day confrontation in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over Soviet ballistic missiles deployed in Cuba . Korean War – It was a war between North and South Korea , in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, also assisted by the Soviet Union .
