organizations can work together in an effective and efficient manner to prevent or respond to a disaster or hazard within the county. When dealing with hazardous material in Aiken County, a county HAZMAT Team has been established to respond to hazardous material incidents. This team consists of thirty-two personnel with 20 members trained in everything from various specialties of weapons of mass destruction to accidental chemical release. Another program that has been most beneficial to Aiken County is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which collects data and coordinates response and recovery during a hazardous event in the county. With a nuclear facility in the county, the industrial capacity, and the network of interstate highways and rail system, Aiken County is more than prepared to respond to a hazardous material release or disaster. For example, 15 years ago, a train derailed in Aiken County and released toxic chlorine, which claimed the lives of nine people and made hundreds sick. The spill was contained and numerous lives were saved due to our local and State agency’s EOP Plans. Introduction. (n.d.). Aiken County Hazmat Team. Retrieved from Hazardous Materials. (n.d.). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
