Characteristics of Organization When reviewing the HCAHPS scores for Central Florida Regional Hospital it showed some strength and weaknesses of the facility. The strengths that were shown were good communication with the nurses and a nurse leader visited the patient during their stay. The main weakness that was found was that quietness of the hospital environment was very low. A quiet environment offers a healing environment for patients. Noise can be a stressor for patients and it is proven to be disturbing to the healing process. Sleep is a very important part of recovery. The staff needs to do everything they can to ensure the patients get as much rest as possible. The evidence-based practice and quality improvement projects this facility is working on that I noticed was inserting catheters and mouth care for intubated patients. The units had poster boards of proper ways perform these interventions. The hospital keeps tract infections from foley catheters and the number of ventilator-associated pneumonia. The hospital keeps track of these for their quality improvement projects. They can collect the data and review them to improve the quality of care. A6. Recommendation for Organizational Change My recommendation for an organizational change is to promote quietness throughout the hospital day and night. I would start by educating your staff on the most recent HCAHPS score on the quietness of the hospital environment. Set a goal for improving your scores on that survey item, then begin tracking patient sleep. Nurses noticed when patients are sleeping poorly and can make an extra effort to help them sleep better by making sure things are done at appropriate
6 times. For example, weighing a patient before 6 a.m. is not an appropriate time for all patients.
