10. Beowulf Silences UnferthBeowulf explained how he escaped the monsters of the waters and how he has never heard of Unferth doing anything good/impressive like that. Beowulf also pointed out that Unferth has slayed his fellow brothers. He said that if Unferth was as brave as he caims to be, then Grendel wouldn’t still be alive and attacking. Hrothgar leaves Beowulf in charge of the mead-hall. 11. All Sleep Save OneSoldiers were in charge of watching the mead-hall overnight. Beowulf prepares to sleep. Grendel in coming to Heorot.12. Grendel and BeowulfGrendel furiously enters the hall. He began killing the sleeping soldiers. He then goes to Beowulf, but is caught off-guard by the strength of Beowulf. Grendel wanted to run away.13. Grendel Is VanquishedBeowulf gives Grendel a deadly wound by tearing off his arm. Grendel ran back to the moors to die. Hrothgar’s war hall was safe from Grendel. Beowulf displayed Grendel’s arm in Heorot. 14.Rejoicing of the DanesBeowulf is the hero. Grendel’s blood dyes the waters.
15. Hrothgar’s GratitudeHrothgar celebrates the death of Grendel, as well as the acts of Beowulf. Unferth is silent because he was proven wrong by Beowulf killing Grendel.16. Hrothgar Lavishes Gifts Upon His DelivererAlthough Heorot was broken and suffered destruction from Grendel, there was a banquet held there for celebration. Beowulf received gifts and praise.
