charming the rocks letting him live a little longer. Revealing the effect that poetry has on the physical world as well. Through Orpheus, Ovid is revealing that poetry has a godly effect on the world. Orpheus uses the art form to manipulate the gods to bring back his wife, as well as to partially save him from the Thracians. Poetry is able to manipulate the physical and the immortal worlds; it seems to have a greater power than even the Gods. Orpheus, in Ovid’s Metamorphoses is revealing the true power of poetry, and the effects that it has and still has on the world today. The art of poetry has been everlasting since its introduction on earth, and Ovid is portraying its power over everything. Poetry is able to manipulate the Gods into doing what the author wants them to do. It in a way has a greater power then the Gods, as it is able to control them. Poetry has been immortalized through the way people have used it. Human use of poetry gives them power over the Gods as proved by Orpheus. Ovid uses Orpheus to reveal the true power of poetry and the immortalizing effects that it has had and is still having on the world today. Poetry is a source of power in our world today, and in Ovid’s time.
