DIVERSITY ADVOCACY Coordinator: Angela Davenport 305 North School Street, (309) 438-8968 Diversity Advocacy, a functioning unit of the Dean of Students Office, sponsors programs to raise cultural awareness in all students, faculty and staff and facilitates a supportive environment for underrepresented populations through diver- sity advocacy. The unit coordinates a wide variety of cultural and educational programs, celebrating African- Americans, Asian-Americans, Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender persons, Latinos/Latinas, Native Americans, and women in conjunction with MECCPAC (Multi Ethnic Cultural and Co- Curricular Programming Advisory Committee). The unit plays a role in developing student recruitment and retention programs and collabo- rates with faculty and academic departments to enhance in-and-out-of-classroom experiences. The Center for Intercultural Relations is a com- ponent of Diversity Advocacy and is available for use by the entire University community. It offers two conference rooms that can be reserved for meetings, seminars or other gatherings, and a relaxed atmosphere for studying and meeting with friends. PARENT SERVICES Bone Student Center Administrative Offices Room 144, Campus Box 2640, (309) 438-3753 Parents and family members who need direc- tion or assistance can contact the Dean of Students Office - Parent Services. This office develops pro- grams (e.g. Family Weekend) and materials that promote family involvement in the University and its educational mission as well as provides informa- tion about University resources to parents. The office also conveys the suggestions and concerns of parents to the University community. The parents of current students at Illinois State have the opportunity for active involvement in the University through the Parents’ Association. All parents of Illinois State University students are automatically members of the Association. The Parents’ Association is represented within the University community by the Parents’ Association Board (PAB). The PAB, composed of 20 parents represent- ing the geographic regions of Illinois, works with Parent Services as a liaison between family mem- bers and the University to enhance the Illinois State University student and parent experience. STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORT AND INVOLVEMENT 387 Student Services Building (309) 438-2151 Active participation in programs and organi- zations helps students by enhancing and enrich- ing the college experience while fostering learning, leadership skills and personal growth. The Student Organization Support and Involvement Unit (SOSI) maintains a registry of over 300 student organizations on campus which are categorized into 17 areas of interest.
