think this chapter is wrapped up well when Johnson says “ dynamics of capitalism play a key role in the trouble surrounding privilege, especially related to race and gender.” Johnson then finishes up the chapter by explaining how one can be privileged and unprivileged at the same time… Johnson Ch. 4- Making privilege happen I think it’s interesting how Johnson begins this chapter by talking about discrimination in regard to making privilege happen and the fact that discrimination is connected to how we think and feel about people. Discrimination helps maintains systems of privilege. The chapter then goes into avoidance, exclusion, rejection and devaluing (all really horrible things that we do to one another.) We use all of these things to discriminate one another because that is how we stay in our classes. The chapter talks about dominant groups and how there is little sign of those groups weakening anytime in the future. It’s the “norm” or a way of life for a lot of people. The chapter wraps up with a focus on heterosexuality verses homosexuality, gender dynamics, and the boxes that these demographics of people are in and why.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
