is a program here that is concentrated on getting these men back into the public and living a productive life style. This is a hard program to get into as well and many times this program keeps inmates in prison longer than if they would just run in General Population and get paroled. If they don’t think you are ready they do not release you. It is astonishing to me that there are prisoners who decide to stay and try to change their lives and I would love to be a part of that process. The Vocational Village is part of a new program at the Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility a first-of-its-kind for the department that aims to give inmates intensive, hands-on job training experience that is expected to help them land jobs. This is in the State of Michigan and it offers training and education in Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding, Automotive Technology, Electrical, Robotics and Fork Lift just to name a few. The motto is building a foundation for the future. I

think the objective for every facility that houses someone who is eventually going to get parole and leave is simple we have to give them a shot at rehabilitation and we should provide them with a way not to come back to prison. Giving someone a skill or a job field to work in is amazing and exactly what we should be doing. This program is one of the best I have ever seen or looked into. Prison should not be people laying around all day making spreads and watching tv. There is no rehabilitation in that, that is time-out for adults. The Vocational Village is a first- of-its-kind skilled trades training program that aims to provide a positive learning community for prisoners who are serious about completing career and technical education. I love this and I would love to see it implemented in other places than just Michigan. The annual cost of housing an inmate in California is $75,560, which is now more than the cost of tuition at Harvard. A study funded by the U.S. Justice Department found that prison education reduced recidivism by 43%. I think we are on to something here. Education is very important and I look to my home state once again. Where four prisons are now offering Community College classes. The schools include Lassen College in Susanville paired with High Desert State Prison; Folsom Lake College paired with Folsom Women's Facility; Antelope Valley College in Lancaster with California State Prison, Los Angeles County; and Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga with the California Institution for Women. These are all in California and what I find

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
