MEANINGFUL USE 8 To conclude, I had no idea how the HIT infrastructure was first proposed or implemented. Because of the HITECH Act of 2009, we now have incentives and penalties in place to help promote EHRs that implement data that is of meaningful use. EHRs with meaningful data are paramount for healthy populations and effective patient care. This HIT infrastructure will help the federal government track health care data related to public health. This action alone will help promote health and help maintain healthy populations. This will also aid in the continuity of care for each individual because healthcare professionals will now be able to access the most accurate data to make well informed decisions about a patient’s care. The public will benefit because of health promotion data for whole populations. The patient will benefit because of an increased quality of care and an increased level of safe care. These are insights I did not realize until I undertook this paper.
