Any possible errors in my values, or the reason the Kc values maybe weren’t as similar as they were supposed to be could be because of errors and mistakes in the precision of the measurements used for each test tube. It also may have been due to small errors during the calibration or while switching the solutions from the cuvette after one another. Perhaps the cuvette was not cleaned well enough on the sides that the spectrometer was absorbing the light ofthe solution, so the absorbance values were a little off.5
VI. CONCLUSIONThis experiment allowed me to determine the average Kc equilibrium constant of the reaction between iron and thiocyanate. By using the equation M1V1=M2V2, solutions of different concentrations of reactants were made. Based off of the data I obtained regarding the concentrations of my solutions from the LabQuest spectrometer, I was able to determine an average equilibrium constant, Kc= .000284. 6
