Media attention of the zika virus caused this spur of sales in these products by changing what consumers decided was important. In attempt to sway the pressure from purely invisibands, the company used price of related goods (supply) by creating a new product with similar effect. This is an older article, but I believe it’s a good example of how media can affect public wants. Especially considering the outbreak was definitely exploded and it was found to not be as serious as the media portrayed it. Death is very unlikely and even sickness is relatively rare. In AP government we’re currently learning about the influence of media on the public and the sensationalism of media. I thought this was pretty interesting seeing it retrospectively and the media’s influence on what the public talks about. (clearly this isn’t related to economics, but as I do article reviews for gov too I find myself thinking in that way with nearly every article I read so I thought it would be interesting to add)
