cash-only clinics. Only 4% of doctors in the United States have completed the courses that allows them to prescribe medication for treatment of opioid disorders. The answer to this disorder is how we move forward and plan on treating it and preventing recurrent relapses. (Hostetter,2017). This all impacts the way I will provide care to my patients by being able to use the medication-assisted treatment (MAT). This treatment is known to decrease overdoses, HIV, Hep C transmissions, and is cost efficient. The most commonly prescribed medications are Subutex and Suboxone. As of 2000 The Drug Addiction Treatment Act allows qualified providers to prescribe these medications. This expands prescribing privileges to nurse practitioners. Properly screening patients past medical history can provide valuable information regarding psychiatric conditions I can potentially play a role in the recovery path for many of those who suffer with addiction. Ultimately, by actively participating and monitoring these patient’s, recurrent hospital visits can begin to decrease.
