a young age. However, they still understood me due to the fact they had my brother at 19 and 20.
August of 2015, I decided to have an abortion. I found out that the only clinic in Dayton, Ohio
offered surgical abortions. I was scared to take the pill option because someone instilled in my
head that it would not work. The morning of, I had a few grapes and juice then I headed to my
appointment with my boyfriend. I laid down on the table extremely scared, wearing a new Ohio
University tee shirt that I got from orientation. The doctor explained the procedure, then used
laughing gas to help calm me. It did nothing. She started the procedure by numbing my cervix,
which made me immediately cry. She then tried to ask questions such as, “Are you excited to
attend Ohio University?”, which I could not answer. I felt like I could not breathe. She then used
the instrument to surgically remove the fetus. The whole procedure took 5-6 min. After, I got up
and immediately threw up. The nurse who assisted me told me how she also had an abortion not
too long ago. She said I was going to feel many different emotions but told me everything was
going to be okay. At the time I needed to hear something simple like that. After, my family was
very supportive including my dad who gave me the longest hug when I got home. On the other
hand, the actions of my boyfriend explained why I could not move forward with him. The mental
