Literature also indicates there are several different leadership styles that can be used including one based on the democratic style of leadership. This particular style is useful when mutual cooperation and coordination between groups is needed (Mitchell, 2017). A change management theory combined with the democratic style of leadership can help facilitate much needed change such as our plan to decrease the boarding of psychiatric patients inthe emergency department. One well known change theory known as the Innovation Diffusion Theory can be used in facilitating the new plan. Roger’s theory emphasizes the importance of including team members that are interested in making the change happen. His theory focuses on utilizing group strengths. The five stages of Roger’s theory are:knowledge - this is where the team first acknowledges there is a problem persuasion - the team is interested in the problem so they seek out information and detailsdecision - the team considers all the advantages and disadvantages of implementing the changeimplementation- the change is implemented and evaluatedconfirmation - the change is made into policy (Udod & Wagner, 2016).Roger’s change theory will be using to keep the team focused while implementing changein the emergency department.
