can choose to believe or not, Anderson (1985:116). Mohammed’s books and messengers – Anderson (1985:117) states, that Muslims must believe in the books and the messengers of Muhammad, for the prophets brought 104 “divine books”, of which “100 were given to Adam, Seth, Enoch and Abraham, but are now lost; while of the four major Scriptures the Law was ‘sent down’ to Moses, the Psalms to David, the Gospel to Jesus, and the Qur’an to Muhammad”, (1985:117). The last day - According to Muslims the hour and date is a secret to when the last day will take place, yet they proclaim the 25 signs to approach. In this view, they state that all men will rise, the books will be opened accordingly by angels and then God will judge each man by “his deeds in balance”, Anderson (1985:117). In turn each will then either go to paradise and marry as many maidens as please or they‘ll go to hell. Decree of both good and evil - It is required that a Muslim believe in God’s Decrees. Although they believe both good and evil comes from God, 5

2.3 Allah: the God of Islam Muslims are of opinion that the Bible is not accurate; as it is mere humans who wrote it and therefore it has been changed. Muslims claim that the Koran is uncreated and eternal, which in turn implies that the Koran has an independent existence apart from Allah , Boa (1990:74) . While Islam’s doctrine about God is one of a God in oneness, it is many ways that Allah seems to have not enough of certain qualities and seems so transcendent that he is practically not able to be known. Although they claim him to be all-powerful, little is said about the attributes of holiness and love. Muslims doesn’t have a clear picture the true Trinity (they think Christians teach that it consists of God, Mary, and Jesus) , Boa (1990:74) . “They hate this doctrine, as a form of shirk, because they believe it destroys the divine unity. For them it is an unpardonable sin to associate a “partner” with God”, (Boa 1990) . When we research Islam we find that Allah has done nothing for man that cost him anything, unlike the God of the Bible, Who sent His Son Jesus to atone for our sin. “Islam makes no real provision for sin.”, (Boa 1990) . In Islam, one’s salvation is based on a works system and on complete surrender (“Islam”) to the will of Allah and therefore is never certain, Boa (1990:74) . Islam focuses a lot on outward appearances and therefore a Muslim has no personal relationship with God. For their prayers and worship aren’t spontaneous or individual, because everything is systematically arranged, Boa (1990:75) . 6

2.4. Islam and Christianity 2.5. Evangelising Muslims The fist attempt to try and witness to a Muslim in my opinion would be to establish whether they are part of the Sunni or Shias . Seeing that there beliefs slightly differ. In the case of a Sunni, I would start by complimenting him / her on their goal to keep the law of God as they understand it, as our goal is to show this person that the law cannot save you. The following scriptures can be used to contribute to the heaviness: Romans 3:20; James 2:10; Galatians 3:24 &1 Cor. 3:6, McCurry (1994:n.p.) .
