3. List 3 ways patient confidentiality is maintained in the reception/waiting area of a medical office. It is very vital to maintain confidentiality in a medical office setting. In a reception area one has to be aware of who’s near and the location in which you choose to discuss personal matters because you never know who is passing by over overhearing a conversation. As told by Ethics for Healthcare Professionals 1 st Edition (2014) a receptionist cannot ask you your reason for visit while checking in, that information should already be known at time of visit. It is a big NO for any records to be left opened and unattended for all to see at any time, this includes online files & paper recorded forms therefore one must ensure proper placing and keep a visual on documents .Employees are NOT allowed to randomly view any patient’s medical record for any reason that is why at many locations they selected people to assist in getting, returning, and managing files.
