male teen for finally coming forward to assist Taylor but at the same time it was too little too late. The damage had been done. I am also left to wonder had the young man stood idly by and watched before coming to her rescue or had he just walked in? According to Benjamin Mueller (2015), five of the assailants have been arrested while one is still being pursued. However, the ring leader Aniah Ferguson, 16, has been charged as an adult and is presently being held on a $500,000 bond. This is not Ferguson’s first rodeo with the law she has been arrested multiple times for theft, assaulting her grandmother and stabbing her brother. Unfortunately, she is also a mother of a one-year-old who her mother has taken on the role of guardian. Its alleged the assailants are part of a gang known as the Young Savages. The teens have all been charged with felonies ranging from gang assault and robbery. Charges are still pending for those who recorded, incited, and/or partook in the assault. Depending on who is asked regarding do individuals have a moral or legal obligation to help when he/she witnesses criminal acts the answers can be surprising. According to Sam Staley (2013), members of the community are obligated to step in and assist whenever they encounter a crime taking place. Intervention is needed to make a statement to offenders that violent acts will not be tolerated this must be done in order to take back our streets. If the situation appears to be too dangerous call 911. Typically, if one individual comes forward to stop a criminal act more individuals will be more willing to step forth and help.

5 With a Penn in Hand According to Paul Wallin (2014), in various states it’s not a crime to witness criminal acts and not intervene or call 911. Failure to act is strictly up to the individual. Some individuals are scared to intervene om fear of retaliation or he/she just doesn’t want to get involved. However, if the victim sustains serious injuries or dies those who witnessed the act in some instances are now accessories to a crime. There appears to be a fine line of responsibility individuals face when taking on these types of situations.
