“As fascinating as crime may be for some viewers, is it right that a local news station air the gory details of a tragic event, possibly jeopardizing an ongoing police investigation, and violating suspects' rights?” (PBS, “If It Bleeds, It Leads”). Because of the constant analysis of military plans and missions, crimes, and other ongoing investigations, information can be compromised at times. This puts the United States at risk of
Roberts 8enemy infiltration into our intelligence systems and tactics to prevent terrorism. Also, the weapons currently being built and used are often a topic of discussion for a live newsroom. This is dangerous because it also leads to terrorist infiltration and copycat techniques in order to compete with new weapons being built and tested. In addition, wrong information and assumptions may be passed along because every news station is looking to be the first ones to break a story. Wherever the story breaks first is where more people are watching. This causes theratings and overall profit of that news outlet to skyrocket. Any wrong information can potentiallycreate rumors which lead to false accusations and an overall misunderstanding of a situation or highly controversial crime.Social change is defined as “fundamental alterations in the patterns of culture, structure, and social behavior over time” (Hughes/Kroehler, 430). It delves into the psychology and sociology of the modern civilization. The things our society does and why they do them are frequently analyzed when discussing the topic of social change. A major aspect of social change is terrorism. The changing era of terrorism is heavily related to social change because the goal of terrorists is to bring about social change. They feel that the most effective way to bring about the change they wish to see is to use force and commit heinous crimes of violence. Terrorists aim to change the way people think. Ultimately, they want the entire world to think and be more like their narcissist selves. They want to see people changed by their acts and are not afraid to use force to do so. Going forward, some social leaders preach implementing more preventative measures as well as better disaster planning (D. Kennedy, 2002). This way, though the effects of terrorism will always hit very close to home when any American is affected, the American people will be more resilient and prepared for the absolute worst case scenario.
Roberts 9With the rapidly increasing world of technology, this newfound terror media outlet will never be stopped. It is only going to get worse. This is because of the free reign most of the world has over the internet. More and more kids are gaining full and unlimited access to all media outlets. Anyone can post anything they want whenever they want. This does not mean thatinternet access should be restricted in any way as this would be a violation of the rights Americans have worked so hard for. Also, a law that outlandish would never even be considered in a democratic country like the United States. Instead, there needs to be more communication
