High School Social skills developing and changes influences by friends, school environment, culture Addict: take drugs to function not to get high You will never reach the first high EVER again; your brain stops making normal neurotransmitters Side effects of hormones develop an instinctive drive that drives your social choices/development kids focus on their friends more than family Sometimes juveniles don’t have a choice! The hormones also turn on an instinctive drive All you want to belong to a group, something bigger than themselves beast mode Teenagers want to pick a social group Grouping behaviors usually starts between 11 and tends to end around 18ish Grouping behaviors tend to be a function of: o Ethnicity o Environment o Location Groupings There are a number of reasons why youth join groups like gangs There are two common behaviors encountered with every type of group Grouping and choosing a social (group identity)
