Part I: Class Convention: You will be assigned the role of a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787. You will work with other delegates who share your vision of how the new government should be structured. You will then participate in a class convention debate in which we discuss: federalism, the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan , executive power, the role of the judiciary, and the Bill of Rights. Your delegate will be expected to present strong viewpoints on the issues listed above. Class Participation is a very important part of the project and you will be expected to have prepared notes on the major issues of the convention. Part II: Convention Journal: You will also be responsible for writing a journal of the events in Philadelphia in 1787. You are to write as if you were a journalist covering the events of that summer. Your 2-3 page journal should include: a description of key delegates (George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, etc.), the major issues (representation in Congress, strength of executive, the 3/5 compromise, the Bill of Rights, and the division of power between the federal and state governments.) You should also include personal insight (opinion) to how our government was created and the unique chemistry of the founding fathers that created our constitution. *You must cite any resources, (books, articles, text, and websites) that you use in your journal. Good luck!

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
