In the second example, the translator wanted to show the difference between the two brothers when one wants to achieve a dream. In the third example, the translator added a part to show that the child’s disability is not a barrier to achieve his dreams. 3.3.2 Omission: Omission means dropping a word or sentence from the ST during the process of translation. This technique may be the result of cultural clashes that exist between the SL and the TL. As Punga (2016) found, the omission does not affect the propositional meaning but it affects the expressive meaning. Expressive meaning is related to the speaker’s feelings or attitude rather than what words and utterances refer to and propositional meaning means the relationship between the word or utterance and what it refers to or describes in a real-world or imaginary 27

world, as conceived by the speakers of the particular language. It can be judged as true or false. Khanmohammad and Aminzad (2015) argued that omission and addition are applied in the news translation. It is about changing the title, omitting unnecessary information, adding important background information and changing grammatical structures.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
