Mega Structures: Port of Rotterdam the Servant sinks its deck two stories into the deepest area. It drops its ten-ton anchor 35 total meters. The joints of the ship need to be removed, taking 15 minutes to do so with a torch blowing at 1000 degrees. It is sunk from the stern to bow, as it cannot be done evenly. The third ship is the Savannah Express. It is one of the two largest container ships in the world. The carrier has 8,400 containers total, with 4,444 visible. The heaviest containers go below the dock while the lighter ones go above. The containers carrying hazardous material and chemicals also go above for safety reasons. The carrier is headed for the Delta Terminal. Four million containers pass through Delta per year. There is a special scanning system, 25 times stronger than an x-ray that scans the containers for illegal products such as guns and drugs. After being docked, the containers are removed. Robotic cranes unload and reload the carrier. AGV, or automatic guided vehicles move the containers around the yard. They are completely free of a driver, as they move on a magnetic grid.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
