Internet Access and Access to Email: Both are required for this course. Information concerning a multitude of topics relevant to this subject will be sent to you via email and posted to Blackboard. Attendance Policy:Attendance is required. An exception be granted for an extended illness (defined as being absent for more than one week of classes) with appropriate documentation. To protect student privacy, documentation should be submitted to the Adrian College Health Center and they should issue notification to all affected faculty.Accommodation:If any student has classroom needs requiring accommodation, please advise Academic Services and engage them tomake any arrangements needed for academic success.Credit Hours: This is a three credit hour class. The student will meet with faculty for 35 hours (1¼ hours each class period, for a total of 28 meetings). In addition, it is expected that the student will spend between 21 and 32 hours reading the textbook (1 to 1 ½ hours per chapter) and 74 to 95 hours (3 ½ to 4 ½ hours per chapter) doing homework, quizzes and exams. Total time spent on this course is estimated to be between 130 to 162 hours. Project:This will be completed in two parts. The first part is an industry and competitive analysis and will be done on a group basis. It will be a formal presentation by the group and due at mid-term. The second part is individual. Members of each group will be assigned a company within that industry and perform a detailed analysis of the company and the industry in which it operates, and prepare a formal briefing regarding this business entity and its activities. The deliverables for this briefing are both a “Viewbook” and a “White Paper”. These will be explained in detail when the assignment is distributed. Students will present their work to faculty in a board room setting. This presentation is individual will occur outside of normally scheduled class meeting times during the last weeks of class. Both the written submissions and the presentations are considered in deriving the grade for the project.Attendance Policy:This is NOT an “on-line” class!Although a significant portion of the assignments and examinations are web-based and may be completed on-line, attendance is expected(although not graded). Please do not cheat yourself by skipping class. Class time is your best opportunity to ask for clarifications of course subject matter and to get questions answered about homework, end of chapter questions and examinations.
