9 CHAPTER 4 RECOMMENDATIONS & FINDINGS In today’s age, every company featured in the Fortune 100 list has a diversity management team in place. This is because businesses now understand the importance of a diverse workforce and are utilizing it to further growth and progress. Diversity management teams are constantly working and finding ways to improve their management strategies. What are the steps to effective diversity management? - Definition: Understand what the word ‘diversity’ means to you as an organization. For some it may only diversity in race, religion, color and nationality while for some companies, diversity may mean something deeper like thoughts, ideas, generation and viewpoints. Definition of diversity for an organization is very important as every company has their own diversity style - Realistic Goals: A diversity management team has to set goals keeping in consideration all the levels of management that are responsible for implementation. Implementation of diversity strategies is the responsibility of every employee in the organization. - Quantifiable goals: Goals and progress need to be measured and accounted for in order to understand how effective your diversity management strategies are. - Get the right people : Herding in the right human resources is an integral function of diversity management. Employees who come from diverse background and possess different set of skills and experiences bring into the organization valuable information and contribution. Also, people with an open mind can assimilate themselves into a diversified environment much better. - Talent acquisition: Zero in the right kind of skill set to form your diversity management team. If your team is aware of its duties, you will feel more engaged even if diversity management is a new thing for you. - Information: Employee training in diversity management is a must. Merely setting up work rules and practices without the right kind of implementation is like trying to fly a kite in the air without a string. Without training, employees will find it difficult to interpret what diversity means to the company and how best to integrate it into their daily work process. Coaching, mentoring and education forms the crux of diversity management training and helps the strategies work in a smooth order.
