literature, the population of the mentally ill frequently presents malnutrition; sometimes becausethey lack of the knowledge to make wise diet options and other times they are unable to affordhealthy food (MacGillivray et. al., 2010). The present project would benefit all of them with avery moderate cost that the community can afford.Service provided: shelter and complementary nutritionThe main service that will be provided is shelter for those who need it in the form oftemporal and also permanent housing provided by the project. This main facility can be donatedby the local government and paint and repairing can be done by collecting funds and donationsfrom the community, this point will be developed later in another section. The service of shelterwill be complemented with a nutrition plan for supplementing the diet of the mentally ill: salads, fruit juices and sandwiches will be offered 24/7. Research indicates that poor nutrition is related
Shelter and Complementary 4to symptoms that are common among the mentally ill, like poor memory function and vitaminsand minerals that are fundamental for a correct mind and brain functioning (Killaspy et. al.,2011). The food will be prepared by some of the most functional members of the vulnerablepopulation, those that are able to help and willing to cooperate without looking for personalprofit. The shelter will also be organized, coordinated and maintained by the patients, who willbe assisted by coordinators of the project. A team of volunteers from the community will be asked to participate and we think thatthe community will respond positively and a team of energetic and well organized volunteerswill be achieved soon, before the start of the repair of the main facility. Once the volunteer'steam is ready for action we will go to the field and invite the general population and also thementally ill to the open-house of the project, where we will present our services to thecommunity and a socialization process will be started.Partners and contributorsTo be able to provide shelter and nutrition for the vulnerable population of the mentallyill many resources will be needed. Some of the resources will be direct donations from thecommunity; comforters, beds, plates, kitchen tools. The main donation is expected from the localgovernment, they should be able to provide a facility where the project can operate . We arelooking particularly for a building with at least 20 small bedrooms that will allocate the temporalshelter. We must make clear that the shelter has a temporal nature and that can be used only forsome days while the individual find a permanent home. Another partner will be the private
