literature, the population of the mentally ill frequently presents malnutrition; sometimes because they lack of the knowledge to make wise diet options and other times they are unable to afford healthy food (MacGillivray et. al., 2010). The present project would benefit all of them with a very moderate cost that the community can afford. Service provided: shelter and complementary nutrition The main service that will be provided is shelter for those who need it in the form of temporal and also permanent housing provided by the project. This main facility can be donated by the local government and paint and repairing can be done by collecting funds and donations from the community, this point will be developed later in another section. The service of shelter will be complemented with a nutrition plan for supplementing the diet of the mentally ill: salads, fruit juices and sandwiches will be offered 24/7. Research indicates that poor nutrition is related
Shelter and Complementary 4 to symptoms that are common among the mentally ill, like poor memory function and vitamins and minerals that are fundamental for a correct mind and brain functioning (Killaspy et. al., 2011). The food will be prepared by some of the most functional members of the vulnerable population, those that are able to help and willing to cooperate without looking for personal profit. The shelter will also be organized, coordinated and maintained by the patients, who will be assisted by coordinators of the project. A team of volunteers from the community will be asked to participate and we think that the community will respond positively and a team of energetic and well organized volunteers will be achieved soon, before the start of the repair of the main facility. Once the volunteer's team is ready for action we will go to the field and invite the general population and also the mentally ill to the open-house of the project, where we will present our services to the community and a socialization process will be started. Partners and contributors To be able to provide shelter and nutrition for the vulnerable population of the mentally ill many resources will be needed. Some of the resources will be direct donations from the community; comforters, beds, plates, kitchen tools. The main donation is expected from the local government, they should be able to provide a facility where the project can operate . We are looking particularly for a building with at least 20 small bedrooms that will allocate the temporal shelter. We must make clear that the shelter has a temporal nature and that can be used only for some days while the individual find a permanent home. Another partner will be the private
