Cheating creates bad habits and fosters a culture of dishonesty. Dishonest students can also devalue the grade in the course and also the value of your degree. They would not have the same skill set and knowledge as you would, but would be able to claim the same degree and credentials. Academic dishonesty is when any actionor inaction creates an unfair advantage. The relationship between academic integrity and writing are intimately connected. When writing andexpressing your opinions or arguing a point it is necessary to give credit to the sources used to formulate your ideas. Any form of not citing your sources is a violation of academic integrity. It can be purposeful or not purposeful in nature (Laureate Education, Inc., 2018b). There are different ways that a violation can be

avoided. Proper time management is key. Writing in a rushed manner creates an environment for cheating and plagiarizing. As you write your paper, keep track of your sources. You can always go back and make sure that you are citing your sources properly. If you use another person’s idea and paraphrased it into your words, credit needs to be given through citing the reference. Proper time management allows the student to ask the instructor for any clarifications of expectations or requirements of the assignment. This actually eliminates some tendencies to rely on other students’ work which could create a situation of plagiarism (Walden University Academic Skills Center, n.d.). Walden University provides resources of Grammarly and SafeAssign to assist students with locating problem sentences and paraphrasing that are not properly written or cited and that would be considered plagiarism.Integrity is the cornerstone of the nursing profession. It is the building block. Any lack of integrity erodes the value of nursing as a profession. Nursing is a trusted profession. Nurses are looked upon as being honest, trustworthy and doing the best that we can (Laureate Education, Inc., 2018a). Nurses are in situations with people who are having the worst day of their lives. They have to disclose their secrets and private moments to strangers in hopes of feeling better or surviving. I believe that is why as a profession nursing is seen with having high standards of morals. Nursing are given this intimate information, expected to act upon it appropriately, and keep it secret. When starting your nursing career, you begin with education. You use this education to create and establish behaviors that will be used during your career. Ethics in education is developing and reinforcing the buildingblocks that make our personalities. Bahrieni, Azodi, Hajivando, and Jahanpour (2017), stated that “Nursing is an ethical effort. The art of nursing is not solely limited to technical skill and knowledge. Ethical values, believes, and orientations of nurses have a key role in judging and deciding in clinical environment. It is increasingly important for nursing students and nurses to have moral decision making capacity and the ability to concentrate on the ethical dimensions of patient care” (p. 1817).
