Assessment Student Learning Outcomes 1 through 6 (above) will be assessed using graded exams and homework. Student Learning Outcomes 7 and 8 will be assessed by graded lab reports. Grading Scale: This course will use the following grade scale. Note: this scale may change slightly from year-to-year. A 92-100 B 83-85 C 72-76 D 61-64 A- 89-91 B- 80-82 C- 69-71 F <60 B+ 86-88 C+ 77-79 D+ 65-68 Grade Summary The breakdown for each of graded component is show below, along with their weight in percentage. A sample calculation is included in the table below. Sample Calculation Sample Calculation (Final Exam alone) Graded Components weight score weight weighted score weight score weight weighted score Homework 10% 70% x 0.10 = 7 10% 70% x 0.10 = 7 EXAM 1 15% 67% x 0.15 = 10.1 EXAM 2 15% 62% x 0.15 = 9.3 EXAM 3 15% 88% x 0.15 = 13.2 FINAL EXAM 25% 80% x 0.20 = 16 70% 80% x 0.70 = 56 Lab 20% 90% x 0.20 = 18 20% 90% x 0.20 = 18 Total 100% sum 73.6 100% sum 81 In the sample calculation above, the composite score of 73.6 would correspond to a letter grade of “C” according to the grade scale. However, since the FINAL EXAM is comprehensive, we also consider that score alone for the total 70% of the EXAM components (15% Exam 1 + 15% Exam 2 + 15% Exam 3 + 25% Final Exam = 70%). In this example, the result would be a composite score of 81 and correspond to a letter grade of “B–” according to the grade scale. Make-up Exams: There are none. If you miss one Midterm EXAM, the FINAL EXAM will increase to 35% of your course grade . To pass this course, you must complete all of the labs. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
