in keeping patients in nursing homes, while others prefer in-home support
services and adult daycare centers. Studies show that the health of the patients
placed in nursing homes declines faster, leading to higher mortality rates. Family
members of these patients need education, information, and support in order to
keep their loved ones happy and comfortable.
My client, Mr. Speed, requires secondary prevention in order to slow the process
of his disease since he is in the early phase. I feel that he would benefit from a
cholinesterase inhibitor, such as Aricept or Exelon, as well as exercise, good
nutrition, and social activities. Games that stimulate the brain, reading,
gardening, and music therapy may also improve his quality of life once his
symptoms progress.
