Additionally, affordability is a major factor, but on the other hand the level of education plays a role in the digital divide due to not being knowledgeable of what is available. Reading author Pepper Miller’s article,” Digital Divide: Segregation is Alive and Well in Social Media”, made me analyze my usage of social media. I tend to refrain from expressing political, social, or religious views on my page to prevent backlashes from those who may not agree. However, I am a member of a few groups where I am more comfortable in expressing my views when interacting within the group. Social networking and digital platforms offer a level of comfortability to express views without the worries of offending others in a more diverse group setting (Miller, 2011). I have learned that digital segregation is real and is not a topic that is openly discussed. Educating users through the same digital tools that are available is a perfect strategy to address digital segregation. By educating users about digital segregation provides them the knowledge needed to identify what it is and provide the opportunity to correct their behavior. Both verbal and written communication strategies can be utilized such as digital campaigns, discussion forums, and videos that focuses on digital segregation. Digital reality is a mixture of technologies and capabilities that simulates reality (Mahto & Hemnabh, n.d.). It has transformed the field of communication because it has connected the

4 virtual world with the real world that allows both to interact with one another (Mahto & Hemnabh, n.d.). Companies use the software to train employees in a virtual setting that provides a realistic scenario versus sitting in a boring classroom. My plans for my creative brief are identify a special communication need within the organization in which I am employed. A couple of communication needs that are within my department is how we communicate with those clients who are either visually or hearing impaired. The reason for this selection is due to me having to interact with clients who have this disability. Luckily, they have family members that assist, however, there is not procedure in place that enables us to assist those clients. I will explore this topic and identify measurable goals for my creative brief. Measurable goals are important for a creative brief because they determine if the communication plan is effective.
