lead to the most significant of all events, eating his first oyster. He was on a boat with his family with a man named Monsieur saint-Jour, an oyster fisherman. Monsieur Saint-Jour asked if any of them would care to try an oyster. In the proudest moment of Fishers young life he volunteered to eat one. After he ate it, his parents and brother were revolted and he uses highly descriptive words to explain how sickened they were. For example he says, “My little brother recoiled in horror.” Also, “My parents’ shudders, his little brother’s expression of unrestrained revulsion and amazement only reinforced the sense that I had, somehow, become a man.” He had become a man; there was no turning back. He wraps up the story by telling the audience that all of this had brought him to the conclusion that he wanted to become a cook, a chef. All of these significant events with food had changed his course of life. Food has power, food can effect people’s lives, food is important. Although the title of the story of food is good, the whole text revolves around the sentence that “Food, it appeared, could be important.” It can cause conflict between friends and family, it can make one feel powerful and grown up, and it can influence massive changes in ones life.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
