2. Many companies are using a blended approach for employee development. That is, they are using both face-to-face and technology-aided training and development activities for leadership development. What more traditional development activities would you recommend the IHG include in the development program to make it more effective? Explain how these development activities will enhance the program’s effectiveness. All the IHG training is currently computer-based. The traditional development activities recommend are Hands-on training and Presentation Method. These methods bring managers and employees closer together and can be used as team builders as well. Importing team building in with the more traditional methods will have many advantages. Managers and other employees that work the same positions will get to know others that do their same job. They can also meet others from different states and branches of the company. An example of Hands-on training that would be great is On-the-job training and Role Play. Although On-the-job training is considered informal, it is a great way to learn and access your skills at the same time. You will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses more easily. This also allows new and seasoned employees to work together. By doing this, employees can learn from each other as well. Employees will watch each other and hopefully gain knowledge and ideas on how to do certain task and resolve issues that may come about. This method must be structured and well thought out and it will be successful. As for Role Play, this method gives employees the chance to act out different people in different situations and how they should be handled. Role Play helps with interpersonal skills such as communications, providing feedback on performances, leadership. This also gives the employees an opportunity to act on their own 4

InterContinental Hotel Group knowledge and instinct. After each role play, the person leading the exercise will explain the situation and what occurred to make sure employees understand all steps that were made.
