Economic Stability Mr. B. has a stable economic situation that allows him quick and affordable access to health care. As a veteran who qualifies for free health care, along with his private health insurance, he has ample opportunity to maintain the most up-to-date vaccines, screenings, and monitoring available. His employment in the government allows him to purchase affordable full coverage insurance. His employment and socioeconomic status provides him with stable housing in a upper middle-class neighborhood that is safe and secure, further contributing to his safety and ability to remain healthy. Educational Status According to Zimmerman, Woolf and Haley (2012), advanced education provides the opportunity to contribute positively to health and health outcomes. Mr. B.’s college and graduate education and military background enabled him to secure stable employment with the government, which increased his economic status and provided health insurance. A stable economic status, combined with full coverage health insurance, give him the ability to seek healthcare when needed, maintain preventive care appointments, buy prescription medications, and seek out health promotion activities. His education as a nurse enables him to have an educated understanding of the importance of preventive health examinations and screenings. In addition, his education in a healthcare field gives him an advanced understanding of any health issues, allows him to seek assistance from the appropriate health care provider and facility, and assists him with navigating the healthcare system. Lastly, due to his advanced education, Mr. B.

Health Literacy According to Aboumatar, Carson, Beach, Roter, and Cooper (2013), low health literacy is associated with poor health outcomes; therefore, health literacy is an important factor to consider when assessing someone and understanding his/her ability to participate in a plan of care.
