Due to the overwhelming desire to succeed in school and impress parents, students became depressed from spending large amounts of time studying and doing homework. During an interview with a student I asked, “When you began to develop suicidal thoughts how did you feel when you were at school?” The student sighed deeply and explained, “It was like an escape from being at home, but that doesn’t mean I wanted to be there. I didn’t care about academics or friends I was numb to just about anything.” I recognized that I was isolated, but I felt comfortable that way.” Another student said, “I actually became attached to school I felt like it was all I had left. I did try to reach out for attention but never had the guts to make it noticeable.” It was rather difficult to obtain information about the education history if these types of people, however I came across some conclusive data. “Past-month prevalence of non-fatal suicidal behavior was significantly

associated with particular dimensions of poverty (having previously being fired or home insecurity), but not with other dimensions of poverty (such as prolonged unemployment and low levels of income). However, symptoms of depression were a more significant predictor of non- fatal suicide behavior than any measure of poverty. In conclusion with the knowledge of data, surveys and interviews there are suicidal cases that can be caused by the environment an individual was born or raised in. Unfortunately, there was not enough data on both ends to give consistent proof.
