have had a hard time making profit. Eli saw how much work it was causing the farmers and slaves and decided to create a machine that would help. This machine would be called the cotton gin. It separated the seeds from the cotton fibers which made it quicker and less time consuming. The cotton gin was invented in 1793 in the basement of Catherine Greene’s home. problems. Seeds were used to grow more cotton and produce cottonseed oil. Production from the cotton gin was about 50 pounds more than a farmer could produce in a day. America’s economy in shipping cotton grew due to the mass production of cotton in the South. In the North, the increase of cotton added to the textile industry. The cotton gin was less labor intensive, and farmers planted larger batches of the crop which increased need for laborers.
