The problems, however, differ right from the accuracy of prediction. For the side of companies, they have a direct influence on the performance of their products or the management strategies. Law-enforcement departments on the other hand barely influence a crime. The root of their problem is the outside world, where activities and personal decisions are made. Question #3 “Imagine that you had access to the same crime-related information as that managed by police departments. How would you analyze this information, and what actions would you take as a result?” (Marakas & O'Brien, 2013, p. 226) Answer #3 Given the wide range of crimes committed over time, the first step would be to classify them. Some of the types of crimes include arson, property crimes, cyber-crimes, burglary, and organized crimes. Once the crimes have carefully been classified, the next step would be to calculate the occurrence probability of the crime. Probability can be calculated using statistical software such as SPSS. Probability can be extended to know the time range of the crime and where it may occur. By having this data, it becomes easy to know a crime right to the minute it’s likely to happen hence easy to block it. Conclusion In summary, technology can be used to evaluate crimes thus make a prediction. The goal is always to make the world safer than we found it. Technologically, advances have already been made and I the near future, police departments will be able to inhibit a crime event before it occurs. Governments should, therefore, spearhead and fund projects geared towards data-driven fight against crime. Part five Case description This part talks of how companies can use technology to work their inventory logistics using. First is the case is Cisco Systems. The company suffered a considerable loss following the recession period of the dot com. In the 90’s, this giant company used the push method to make its sales. It failed to foresee the collapse of the dot-com bubble. Subsequently, the company lost 25% of its customers within a week. Additionally, the company had to cancel its inventory worth $2billion. The other company is Black & Decker Corp., a Hardware and Home Improvement company located in California. Before the fall of the economy, the company had set up an inventory-management system. The system according to the companies vice president does cut planning within a few days unlike in the past where it used to take weeks. The accuracy of market prediction has also increased by 10.4%. The last company in comparison is the O'Reilly Auto Parts Inc., located in Missouri. The company uses inventory to differentiate competitors. The company realized that following the crumble of the economy, people no longer buy new cars; Instead, the fix the old ones. They have since installed a system that enables them to update inventory data and offer services at night, a strategy that has allowed the company to grow over the years. The company operates in 38 states, with a 44% increase in inventory and at the same time managing customers request at a rate of 97%.
