Being a teacher in a foreign environment I was always trying to change parts of the learning environment to re´ect what I experienced in NZ. The principal challenged me (remember I am the owner of the school but I had also created an environment for open and honest discussions) on it a number of times and sometimes I backtracked and other times we implemented my suggestions. / Hello Duane, I want to point out what you stated on culturally responsive teaching. While I agree with you on students whose backgrounds are similar to their culture and others may not achieve as much; what do you think are the barriers for such? Are there also other instances that even with being a minority in the classroom, you can also excel? I want to know your thoughts. These can all create problems for the learner. Personally, I believe any student, either from a minority or majority group in the classroom, can succeed if the learning environment is right and if students have a teacher who believes in them. Thank you for your comments Duane 68 words Permalink Show parent Re: Unit 4-Discussion Forum Assignment by Duane Newport - Tuesday, 8 December 2020, 3:05 AM Duane, A teacher who believes in them. / Good post. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up 10 words Permalink Show parent Great job Duane. It is true that many teachers are already acquainted with culturally responsive teaching strategies, but they need to be more deliberate about implementing it properly. Students should be carried along in their learning in other to produce success e±ectively. Teachers and other stakeholders are to study their students' culture so as to be able to practice these responsive startegues. 62 words Permalink Show parent Re: Unit 4-Discussion Forum Assignment by Esther Adejumo - Wednesday, 9 December 2020, 10:49 PM Introduction Now that there are many cultures and much more diversity in the classrooms, it is important for teachers to accept and accommodate to all of those di±erent cultures. It is also important for teachers to adjust their teaching strategies to better ²t the mold of diverse students. The last thing that we, as teachers, want is for students to fail. In order to prevent a student from failing, we as teachers have to understand where they’re coming from and who they are as people. Without that background information, it can prove di³cult to know where and how to teach our students.
