Note in particular the pattern the Christ hymn presents: 1- A right is possessed: “though he was in the form of God…” 2-The right is not exploited and used for gain, but relinquished (involving suffering) for the benefit of others. “he did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave… and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.” 4. The relinquishment of rights is rewarded by God: “ Therefore God highly exalted him…” The pattern is one of possession -- renunciation/suffering -- reward. Someone with higher status renounces that status for God’s sake and then waits for God to exalt her. This is a common theme in many NT letters, i.e. “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble… Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” (James 4:6,10; 1 Peter 5:5-6); “those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it” (Mk.8:35).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
